Little Free Library
About the Little Free Library
Alexandra Neighbourhood House has three little free libraries (LFLs): one along the sidewalk between Cabins #1 and #2, near the gate to McKenzie & Sunshine; another by Alexandra Community Garden on Sullivan by the bus stop and a third (specifically for children’s books) by the gate to L’Atelier, next to The Lodge.
How it works
The idea behind LFLs is simple: take a book you like, and/or leave a book you want to share or return. Occasionally, the stock is refreshed by volunteers, using books donated to Alex House. Please try to leave the shelves tidy.
We happily accept donations of books, with certain conditions. You can either leave them on the shelves, or, if you have a number of books you want to donate. You can deliver them to our office at 2916 McBride Ave during regular business hours (M-F, 9-4).
Please ensure that the books are in good condition – that they have covers, intact pages and bindings, unsoiled, and not heavily marked up or highlighted. Because of our limited space, please limit your donation to two or three boxes capable of being carried.
We do not accept the following:
- Magazines, catalogues, or other periodicals.
- Technical or professional books.
- Sacred books (e.g., Bible, Qu’ran, Book of Mormon, etc.) – books of general religious or spiritual interest are fine.
- Directories or almanacs.
- Pornographic or sexually explicit material.
- Absolute dreck that no one in their right mind would ever want to read.
